Who are we?

The National Federation GAMS (Group for the Abolition of Female Sexual Mutilation, forced marriage and other traditional practices harmful to the health of women and children) is a secular, apolitical, non-profit reported under the 1901 Act. It was created in 1982 by African women living in France and French women.
Today it is managed by women and men who are coming from different backgrounds. Its headquarters is located in Paris and has many delegations and "relay associations" in regions.

The National Federation GAMS aims to fight all forms of violence against women, teenagers and young girls, and the promotion of maternal and child health for immigrant and immigrations issues.

• Contributing to the eradication of harmful traditional practices such as female sexual mutilation (FGM), forced and / or early marriages, nutritional taboos, closely spaced pregnancies, repudiation, levirate / sororate, etc.
• Reminding the positive practices such as port on the back of children, infants massage, etc.

At the national level, recognition of the work of the Federation GAMS has been highlighted in recent reviews :

• National Consultative Commission of Human Rights ;
• High Council for Integration ;
• Commission for Equality between Women/Men of the Senate ;
• Workshop on violence against women in the National Assembly ;
• High Commissioner for Refugees (French Section).

In addition, the National Federation GAMS is one of four organizations behind the network "Acting with them". She is an active member since its creation in July 2007.

At the international level, the expertise of the National Federation GAMS is recognized by :

• The Inter-African Committee on Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children, which is the French section, since its creation in Dakar in 1984 ;
• Euronet FGM, which she co-founded ;
• The European Commission.

For 2010, the National Federation GAMS is a partner of Amnesty International Ireland, the European Campaign "End FGM." She is also a member of the Collective of 24 associations, labeled "2010 Great Cause National violence against women".
